Marine Industry Roundtable

Driving innovation, skills, and sustainability in the marine sector

The Marine Industry Roundtable, held in August 2023, re-engaged local businesses in the Shire’s marine sector to identify challenges and opportunities for growth. With the marine industry employing over 26,000 people nationwide and contributing $9.55 billion annually, participants highlighted the need for stronger advocacy on issues such as dredging and infrastructure, commercial moorings, supply chain pressures, and vessel safety standards. The forum also explored workforce development, including better links between schools and industry, support for work experience, and opportunities to create tailored microcredentials with TAFE NSW. Action items have been set to pursue solutions with council, Maritime, and industry bodies, ensuring the sector’s long-term sustainability.
