Education Roundtable
Bringing industry, educators, and government together to shape workforce skills
On 1 April 2026, SIF brought together local industry and education representatives at St George & Sutherland Community College for our Education Roundtable. The discussion brought together school careers advisers, TAFE NSW, the Department of Education and industry to explore how we can strengthen connections between education and employment opportunities across our region.
Building on the Roundtable, SIF is now establishing a working group focused on improving the connection between students and local businesses, creating more opportunities for young people to understand the industries, career pathways and employment opportunities available within their own region. This work will also support the development of practical initiatives that bring students and industry together.
The Future of Education Roundtable, held on 23 May 2024 at Loftus TAFE, brought together educators, employers, and community organisations to strengthen links between business and education. Participants from TAFE, the University of Wollongong, training providers, high school career advisor networks, local government, and industry explored how businesses can better understand and support diverse educational pathways. The forum highlighted opportunities for students of all ages, particularly in professional trades, to achieve stronger academic and career outcomes through greater collaboration. Key issues and solutions identified will be taken forward in future roundtable discussions.
